New York Times Bestseller
A Summer Reading Pick for President Barack Obama, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg
From a renowned historian comes a groundbreaking narrative of humanitys creation and evolutiona #1 international bestsellerthat explores the ways in which biology and history have defined us and enhanced our understanding of what it means to be human.
One hundred thousand years ago, at least six different species of humans inhabited Earth. Yet today there is only onehomo sapiens. What happened to the others? And what may happen to us?
Most books about the history of humanity pursue either a historical or a biological approach, but Dr. Yuval Noah Harari breaks the mold with this highly original book that begins about 70,000 years ago with the appearance of modern cognition. From examining the role evolving humans have played in the global ecosystem to charting the rise of empires, Sapiens integrates history and science to reconsider accepted narratives, connect past developments with contemporary concerns, and examine specific events within the context of larger ideas.
Dr. Harari also compels us to look ahead, because over the last few decades humans have begun to bend laws of natural selection that have governed life for the past four billion years. We are acquiring the ability to design not only the world around us, but also ourselves. Where is this leading us, and what do we want to become?
Featuring 27 photographs, 6 maps, and 25 illustrations/diagrams, this provocative and insightful work is sure to spark debate and is essential reading for aficionados of Jared Diamond, James Gleick, Matt Ridley, Robert Wright, and Sharon Moalem.

And that's why this book is truly interesting : it provides a fresh and unsuspected understanding of Sapiens evolution, with striking arguments such as "agricultural revolution was history's biggest fraud" or the idea that human societies relies exclusively on shared "imaginary believes" (money, religion, state, good/evil...) that enables them to overrule other more powerful species living before them on Earth.
It really changes the way of perceiving human history, our greatest achievements along with our darkness side.
On the minus side, the author is a little too much a fierce advocate of Darwinism and relies too much on the "Theory of Evolution" to explain every development in human societies. Darwinism is the more advocated theory to explain the bio-diversity and species evolution, but is not without incoherence and discrepancy. Nevertheless, the author is truly positioning himself as a atheist and convinced believer of the today's "scientist religion", that establish that everything that can't be measured in a laboratory simply doesn't exist including Soul, Emotion and Feeling (described as a mere chemical reaction) and of course God.
Accordingly, not a word about the "new scientist revolution" that leads to acknowledge the existence of a black mass and a black energy, that encompass 95% of the universe, while the materialist side of the universe account for a mere 5%...that same 5% that most of the orthodox biologists and physicians still pretend are the only reality that exist...ironically, as the author admit, today's scientist are the new religious leaders of our world, so they won't admit that what they can do is only can scratch the visible surface of the universe, while the whole inside, made of black matter / energy (supra-consciousness ? God ?) are out of their reach...
