On May 10, 2017, the band celebrated their 25th anniversary and their national tour brought in 700,000 people, the largest number of people to attend in the band’s history. The concert featured is from September 9th at the Kumamoto Prefectural General Athletic Park Athletics Stadium in Kumamoto which brought in 41,000 people.
The release will be a whopping 409 minutes long (live 195 minutes + 214 minutes for the music videos). As a special bonus, included is the “Mr.Children MUSIC CLIPS 1992-2017 Thanksgiving 25” which includes 38 Music Clips and a 124 page photobook.

“Mr.Children DOME & STADIUM TOUR 2017 Thanksgiving 25” is presented in 1080p High Definition and the concert looks absolutely fantastic with cameras in many locations, to capture the band may it be close up, behind, from up above, from the rear, from way back of the venue, the middle of the venue, behind fans, camera watching the fans, cameras on each musician, this is probably one of the most ambitious, well-planned, well-edited concerts I have ever seen released on Blu-ray.
Looking at the booklet, there are 31 cameramen involved with filming this concert.

“Mr.Children DOME & STADIUM TOUR 2017 Thanksgiving 25 is presented in Japanese Linear PCM and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Music is fantastic, with good use of surround channels to capture the crowd and them cheering and singing along to the music.

Possibly the major incentive of purchasing this concert is the fact that it contains a Blu-ray with every music video made by Mr.Children. In addition to a slipcase, it also comes with a 124-page booklet with photos from the concert, lyrics to the songs, production credits and more.
My favorite Japanese band is Mr.Children and I happen to own nearly every album, many concerts on DVD and Blu-ray and adding “Mr.Children DOME & STADIUM TOUR 2017 Thanksgiving 25” to my collection was a must.
As a 25th anniversary set, not only do you get one of the coolest concerts that I have ever seen produced and presented in HD, you get another Blu-ray featuring 38 music videos from the band plus a 124-page booklet.
The concert disc was fascinating in the fact that it was shot at Kumamoto Prefectural General Athletic Park Athletics Stadium, a location that you shoot at when you want to how a huge audience and also, the lights and laser lights employed, video screens in the back and to top it all off, a plethora of cameras employed to record this concert.
It was no doubt a special occasion and it was no doubt the most impressive concert in terms of sheer production that I have watched on Blu-ray.
Now was it a perfect concert? I feel that if you are a Mr.Children fan, the songs presented are a great presentation of the 25-years of Mr. Children’s musical oeuvre but I know it won’t please everyone as songs such as “Dakishimetai”, “Cross Road”, “[es] Theme of Es”, “Hana ~Memento Mori~”, “Everything (It’s You)”, “Hallelujah” were not performed.
But at 3 hours and 14 minutes, there are already 38 tracks included in the concert (MC included) and there is no way you are going to get every song from Mr. Children’s singles featured in this concert.
Also, I feel that with every Mr.Children concert release on video, there is something special often added. For example, one of my favorites is their “[es] Mr. Children in Film” which featured behind-the-scenes interviews and the group having fun while not performing live in concert.
But this was pretty much about a Mr.Children concert in which the band is giving back to their audience. Sakurai’s voice is still magnificent now as it was when we first heard of his voice in the early ’90s and the band can still rock 25-years later.
I have to discuss the camera work of this concert. Typically, you get only so many cameras utilized in a concert and with numerous Japanese concerts I have watched and reviewed, limited camera shots tend to get on my nerves and sometimes makes a concert difficult to watch on video.
“Mr.Children DOME & STADIUM TOUR 2017 Thanksgiving 25” uses so many camera angles that you get the 4-5 second count and it’s a different angle. The edits are not dizzying, they are well-planned and you get a great feeling of how enormous this concert was and how many people came out.
There is a camera all over the stadium, up front, behind the band, at each musician and backup musician, at the audience, at the rear video screen, high above, far back, you name it, there is a camera there. And that explains the 30+ cameramen employed to work this concert.
Picture quality is magnificent. Daytime is vibrant and night time shots are not affected with high noise issues.
The audio quality is also magnificent and you can choose from linear PCM or 5.1 DTS-HD MA.
As for the music videos, as one can expect, their are going to be differing quality as a lot of the older Mr.Children music videos were shot in standard format and were not digital. But their earlier music videos have always had this nostalgic look of almost like a video shot in the ’60s, but as you get to the mid-to-late ’90s, you start to see the production quality go up and visual effects employed or better production value.
Overall, this is possibly one of the best Japanese concerts I have watched in my 25-years of reviewing Japanese entertainment. Magnificent production, well-edited and it looks and sounds awesome in HD! And with the addition of every major music video covering their single releases from the band plus a 124-page booklet easily makes “Mr.Children DOME & STADIUM TOUR 2017 Thanksgiving 25” a must-own for fans!
